It was quite a cold evening as my friend and I were comfortably sitting in one of our tambayans in the University. It has a strategic location where a lot of people made their way in this area to their respective college buildings. We talked to friends who passed by, and critiqued and commented on the physical appearances of people we don't know.
After some time we got thirsty from all the talking and gossiping, so I suggested that we buy a softdrink from the vending machine, since it's cheaper to buy there. My friend went to the nearest vendo, while I waited for her in our tambayan to secure our things. She came back empty-handed, saying that the vendo wasn't working. Desperate for a drink, I told her that we should try buying from the other vendos.
We picked up our things, left the tambayan, and walked towards to the 2nd nearest vending machine, which was located near the gate of the College of Engineering building. My friend tried to insert the P20 bill inside the machine, but it won't pick up the money. I tried my luck with my own P20 bill, which was more new and thicker than my friend's bill. The same thing happens.
I called out to the guard near the Eng Gate. "Ate, the vendo's not working. Pero may light naman oh.." I said while pointing to the red light in the vending machine.
The guard inspected the vendo and said, "Ay, walang yellow light kaya di talaga yan gagana. Try nyo sa North Gate."
"Ah, okay po." I replied. My friend and I both thanked the guard and made our way to the next vending machine. The walk was quite far, and we joked that this was like an Amazing Race wherein we have to find the working vending machine. After a few minutes, we arrived at the vendo near the North Gate.
We were delighted when we saw that the machine's yellow light is on. My friend inserted her money in the machine and I pressed the Coca Cola option button. We heard a loud clunk at the bottom of the vendo.
"Yay!" We squealed in delight. I opened the can and took a big gulp.
"Ah, that's refreshing." I said happily.

In life, we encounter people with almost the same features but different personalities. Like vendo machines, they may look similar outside, but their contents may vary. The numbers of sodas inside of one vendo isn't exactly the same as the other ones. Also, not all of it are working properly.
Putting effort to knowing a person is like inserting that innocent P20 bill. We only expect the machine to accept what we give, but, in truth, we can be ignored--or rejected, as the case may be. We can also consider those cases where our efforts are just taken for granted, which can be likened to those times when the stupid machine just gobbles our money up.
But we cannot discount the fact that most of the time, we get what we paid for. Hearing that glorious "clunk" on those scorching hot days feels great.
Then again, vending machines have lights to say if it will work. You never know with human relationships till you try. Either way, it is always a great feeling to experience those moments when we can just say:
Ah, that's refreshing.

The Vending Machine Analogy

But if you didn't see the red light and you tried to exert effort on that person, you'll just be ignored, or worse, rejected.
A rejected P20 bill can't make you get that softdrink in the vending machine. But sometimes even when the effort you gave to the person is accepted, there will be a time when you can't get what you wanted. There will be times that the machine is defective, just "ate" the money and you still can't get a drink.
But the best thing that could happen is when you get what you paid for, or in other words, what you worked hard for. You hear the "clunk" and get the softdrink that you wanted that will relieve your thirst.
There are a lot of vending machines in our life. Don't waste your money on the defective ones. Use it on the only vendo that works. When you get the softdrink that you want and drink it, you'll just say:

The Confrontation
I never thought that it would happen this way.
It was a cloudy afternoon. I somehow sensed that it would rain, but I still didn't bring my umbrella with me. I thought that if ever the rain pours down, I'll be there at his house already, safe and sound.
When it started to drizzle, so I walked faster towards his home. Little did I know that it was a warning that I shouldn't have come there in the first place.

He opened the door and looked like he was surprised to see me. I guessed that he wasn't pleased at first, but then he smiled and immediately let me inside his house. He rushed towards his room and got a towel for me. He wrapped it around my shoulders let his arms stay there for a while. I felt his warmth. It felt good.
"You should've brought an umbrella," he said in a worrying tone, "you might catch a cold."
"I just wanted to see you, Max." I countered. "I haven't seen you in days!"
He gave my shoulders a gentle squeeze. "Aww. I missed you too, Aya."
"But I didn't say that I miss you!" I laughed aloud, not minding my manners.
"You just did! Hahaha!!!" Max chuckled when I pinched his tummy. We laughed out loud together.
When our laughters died down, neither of us said a thing. I cleared my throat.
"I just want to clarify something."
He just nodded to signal me to go on. I held his hand that was resting on my shoulders and slowly shrugged it off, but not letting go of his hand. "You...I..."
His hand tried to slip away from mine, but I tightened my grip. "What kind of relationship do we have right now? I'm asking this because I'm really, really confused."
"Aya, I'm not in the mood to talk about this.." He stopped struggling but he wasn't looking at me.
"When would you be ready, then?" I asked, my voice becoming pitchy. "When you're 'in the mood'?"
"I really don't get it. We go out on dates, then we don't. Then we go out again. And then stop. On, off, on, off!!! One time you treat me like I'm the most important person in the world. And then suddenly you treat me like trash!!" I screamed at him, and my tears suddenly went out of my eyes. I let go of his hand, and started to punch him aimlessly, my fists hitting his chest and arms. He held my wrists and tried to stop me from struggling.
"Aya.. I'm..." He tried to say in between my struggles, "I'm sorry..I'm really..."
I stared at him with wide, surprised eyes.
"..really sorry..."
What he said was almost like a whisper, but it made me stop struggling from him. He released my wrists when I moved my fists down.
It's like admitting defeat, I guess. I wondered for nothing. I waited for nothing. He just confirmed it with his own mouth.
"But I used to--" I cut his sentence by pushing the towel that he lent me on his chest.
"Don't say a thing." I turned my back towards him and headed towards the door.
Deep inside me I was wishing that he'll take my arm and tell me not to go. But he didn't. I guess he really didn't care at all. I opened the door and paused for a while. But there's no turning back. I inhaled deeply and closed the door behind me.
It's still raining. But worse. Its cold drops added to my already shivering heart. I wrapped my arms around myself, as if it would help, but that's the only thing I have.
I started to walk back home. Each step was very hard to do, for I'm slowly walking away from where I wanted to be.
This isn't a break-up because there's nothing to break at all, I thought to myself.

But my heart was broken.

5PM Katipunan - Sabay kami ni Leland na pumunta ng Cavite so yun, na-uto nya ako na pumunta sa Katips :p So meet muna kami ni Klar, bonding bonding :D Wawa bebe, maysakit :( Kala ko malakas ka na!! hehe pagaling ka bebe! :)

6-10PM (di na ako sure sa time nito :P) Punta na ng cavite!!
I would like to call this part "My Adventures with Leland" haha!! fFom Katips, nag-gateway tas farmers kami, nagwithdraw ang loko, manlilibre daw :)) and gusto nya din magpa-late. So SM Makati muna to buy food na dadalhin sa house nila Har. First time ko mamili ng sobrang tagal. Why? Wala eh, nagsama ang dalawang tao na hindi marunong mag-decide :)) Mga 7:30 na kami natapos bumili (i think) Tas cookies, pringles and chocolates lang nabili namin. Tsk tsk. Bumili na din ng dinner sa Jolibee tas naglakad lakad na para maka-hanap ng taxi.. Ayaw yata kami pauwiin, kasi kahit san kami magpunta, mahaba ang pila for the taxi, MRT was not an option kasi yung pila din dun nakaka-stress sobra! kaya yun, lakad lakad pa rin tas nakahanap na kami. Mahal yun for sure, pero go lang, libre naman ng loko :P
Ayun, nung nasa taxi na, dun na nag-dinner si Leland. Nakihingi na lang ako kasi wala talaga akong pera. :)) Akala ko makakapag-power nap ako nito kaso hindi talaga eh, kaya nag-catch up muna kami ni Leland :) Tas nung nakarating na kami ng cavite, nakakawindang ang bill, 250 lang yung nakalagay sa metro pero double kasi yun kapag provincial.. kaya yun. At nung kumatok kami sa house nila har, walang tao!! Kamusta ka naman. Namili pa sila ng stuff sa SM Molino (supposed to be meet up place, pero since late kami, sa house na kami ni har dumerecho). Nung dumating na sila...*insert reminiscing music here* reunion na with my elementary friends!! :D :D :D

9 kami sa house ni Har :) (ako, har, leland, aya, gene, sarah, jinky, cora tas yung "bestfriend" ni aya :P) newfound friends sina jinky and cora! :D
Ayun, ultimate POPOL talaga! may cake, ice cream (na super laki), sobrang daming packs ng chips, chocolates, pizza, softdrinks and booze! (wee hindi ko ginalaw yun :D) Super catching up with my friends talaga. Nung 1st year ata yung huli kong kita sa kanila?? (except si har, leland and gene) Nag-uno muna kami.. haha sobrang hirap kasi 2 sets na stacks yung pinagpatong.. San ka pa?? Then first time ko din mag-pusoy dos.. haha nung una tulungan kami ni sarah..panalo! Tas nung ako na lang.. loser na talaga :)) Nagpakita din ng card tricks si leland.. yung first, win pa eh, nung sumunod na, fail na :)) hahahah! NagPhotobooth session din kami :)) fun fun! :D

Tas nagmovie marathon na. nanood kami ng Enchanted, oo na loser ako first time ko kasi to napanood :)) Anlameeg! Agawan kami sa kumot. Pati sa kutchon :)) Tas anime marathon naman. Ouran High Host Club :) Medyo spoiler ako nun :)) Tinry ko talaga matulog, kaso di talaga eh. pikit lang :)) Pagkabangon ko, marami pang gising, and madami pang food and sabaw na yung ice cream (wala kasing ref sila har, di ko lam kung san napunta :P) Wala nang liguan yung iba since malapit lang naman sila kina har, ako naligo ako kahit sobrang lamig ng tubig. O_O

Medyo pinagsisisihan ko nung una kasi i wore pants na super nipis, kaya nung paglabas namin ng house ni har, malakas yung ulan plus super hangin pa, kaya naging polka dots yung pants ko. Grabe lang stress yung palabas ng village. Dapat di na pala ako naligo kasi nabasa din ako (eww.) kaya yun. Ang lamig pa sa bus, kaya hindi din ako nakatulog dun. Inupakan namin yung cookies ni leland, since di pa kami nagbreakfast. Lumagpas kami ng mrt taft, sa magallanes na kami bumaba. (stress.) Ang hirap magcommute since wala pa akong tulog.

8AM-11:30PM Century Park Hotel
Di ko alam kung pano pumunta ng Century, plus P25 na lang money ko :)) so pakapalan na lang talaga ng mukha :)) Sumabay ako nun kina Chat, sakto kasi papunta na din siya dun. Sa south gate ako naghintay. Take note: tuyong tuyo pa dun, wala pang baha. :P Pagkadating namin sa Century, gutom na gutom na pala yung mga co-apprentices namin. :)) Buti binigay sakin ni Leland yung cookies, yun na yung breakfast nila :P Tas dumating si Shane!! Ang dami dami dami nyang dalang siomai!!! Weeee loveit. Nahyper ako!! :D

Bale ang dami dami naming nasa room. kaming mga apprentice: ako, shane, chat, ana, JM, TJ and gio tas yung mga EB: atsi annie, atsi danna, ahia daryl, ahia mark, ahia karl and ahia carlos.
First task: May pattern na bubuoin with the pentagram (tama ba yung name??).. Di ako magaling dun kaya...wala akong natulong kay JM and Shane :P
Second task: Binigyan kami ng 220 per team, tas gamitin namin yun para i-entertain ang mga EB :P So yun, hindi namin nagamit yun but instead ginamit namin yung gadgets namin to make a movie clip, 1 hour preparation lang kaya sabaw :)) Since nasa hotel kami, cinderella-ish ang theme ng clip namin :) Here's the vid:

After the second task, dapat pupunta na kami ng DLSU. Dun na kasi yung final task namin. Pero pagka-check out namin (mga noontime na yata) and all, walang taxi na gustong dumaan ng La Salle. Hanggang bewang na daw yung baha. (exagge much? pero totoo nga!) Willing yung mga pedicab drivers na ihatid kami dun pero kami lang yung hindi willing. :P After an hour or so, humina na yung ulan. Nakakuha na ng taxi, kaso isang batch lang yung nakabalik ng taft. (Anna, Atsi Annie, Ahia Mark and Chat) Kaya tambay muna sa cafe sa loob ng Century.
Ang bait ng manager dun! I'll never forget her name. Si Mrs. Evelyn Ong. Very accommodating! May 2 coupons kami for free drinks, pero binigyan nya kami ng 8 free hot chocolate drinks! May refill pa tas may cookies pa kami and cake! :D Bonding time to with orgmates. Pero medyo nakakatulog na ako kasi alam nyo na..wala pa akong tulog. Sorry guys! Pero kahit papano may naaabsorb pa naman ako dun sa kwentuhan.. :))

At around 4pm yata, ginising ako at si Shane ni mrs. manager. Sarap kasi ng tulog namin. Pinapasok kami sa buffet area ng hotel tas dun kami pinatulog. Bait talaga! :D At around 5pm, nag-check in ulit kami. (mahal sa Century but where else can we go??) Ayun. Nakakakuha na rin kami ng balita na na-stranded yung mga friends namin sa La Salle. Binaha na din sila hanggang sa loob. :(
Bumili sila Kuya Carlos ng food. Sobrang gutom na kami nun! Wala pa akong kanin on that day. Kaya nung dumating na yung KFC..popol agad kami ni Shane! Sa sobrang gutom namin, pati yung eggs na dapat alagaan for the Bootcamp binoil na din namin :)) (with the EB's approval, of course :P)

So pagkatapos kumain, nanood na lang kami ng news. (na sobrang nakakakaba talaga.) Tapos biglang wala nang signal yung TV. Ayaw na kami panuorin :)) Kaya nanood na lang kami ng movie, Zoolander. :)) Ay nako sabaw much. Tas tinanggal ko na contact lens ko. Napagod kami manood ng news kaya nag-cards na lang kami. 123 pass with a twist: ang mahuli, lalagyan ng concealer sa mukha. :P Loser ako kaya...alam nyo na. (tas bulag pa ako that time! wala akong salamin) Kuminis yung mukha ko dahil sa concealer :)) Pati si Shane, wala na ding space sa mukha. HAHA!! :))

At around 11:30pm, nasundo na ako ng parents ko. 7 hours ang travel nila :)) At dahil gutom pa ako (and sila rin), kumain kami sa Bacolod Chicken Inasal. Sige lang, kain lang :)) Nakarating kami sa condo ng 2am yata, tas eto yung naabutan namin: hindi gumagana yung elevator. HAHAHAHA! 7th floor lang naman. No sweat. Nagpahinga ako sa 6th, tas may kasabay ako. Newfound friend :P So ininterview ko muna. 15th floor pa daw siya. Good luck na lang :))
Ayun, pagkadating sa condo, tulog agad. Then nagising ako ng mga 3am ata? Dumating sila Ate Ayen, Kuya Joy and Kuya Jun. Di sila makauwi ng Cainta kaya samin na muna sila nag-stay. Sandali lang ako nakipagkwentuhan kay ate kasi di na talaga kaya ng powers ko. :)) TULOGGGG. :D
Conclusion
So, ano yung point ng pagkwento ko nito sainyo? I didn't make this just for the sake of having a blogpost. I made this kasi even after all of those things that happened, I'm safe. My loved ones are safe. You see, I could've been stranded with the other students in La Salle, but I ended up staying in Century, which is safer and more comfortable. If I went with the others who took the taxi ride, then I would have been stuck sa taft, which is not good because I haven't got any sleep yet...With P25 in my wallet, who knows where I'll end up? That's why I'm really grateful to my LSA mates, especially the EBs, for taking care of us (the apprentices). I'm not regretting in joining LSA and the Bootcamp (even if I actually showed up on the 2nd day, it was all worth it).
I feel so blessed lang talaga. That's why the title of the post is "Ondoy can't touch me" because I'm protected! :D Not just by the people around me, but of course, by Him, as well. :)

My Birthday Wishlist! :D
Yung ibang stuff dito hindi na magiging wish na lang di ba.....? :D
1. Luanne Rice books!
meron na akong: Summer Light and Follow the Stars Home... family ang theme ng books nya.. kaya I love it :) (meron sa Booksale nito, mura lang :D)
2. Supply ng G-Tech pens! (Yung .4) =)) (si mommy din gusto!)
3. Lacoste Inspiration (or pwede na rin yung mga imitation :P)
4. Laptop bag (HAHA asa naman) - laptop ko: Macbook 13" Aluminum
5. USB (nawala USB ko.. 4GB please! or larger :P)
